Lenzing gives Taiwan a vote of confidence as a specialist for functional fabrics

The Lenzing fibers TENCEL® and Lenzing Modal® are well-established in the Taiwanese market. The softest fiber of the world - Lenzing Modal® - can be found in knitted fabrics for lingerie and light-weight tops. TENCEL® features prominently in denim and woven fabrics. One new development is that TENCEL® is now being applied as an ideal functional fiber in numerous sportswear textiles. Fabrics can be endowed with functional properties thanks to a unique nanofibril technology.
TENCEL® the new and natural high-performance fiber
Due to the nanofibril-structure TENCEL® is hydrophilic and guarantees the optimum absorption of moisture with excellent cooling properties. If one compares the moisture absorption of TENCEL® with other fibers, it becomes clear that this is quite unique. As a result of the ability to store moisture in the fiber itself, the skin remains dry which creates optimum conditions for the skin. This property is also responsible for the fact that the growth of bacteria is inhibited. TENCEL® prevents the formation of a water film on the fiber, which, in turn, puts a stop to bacterial growth. One further advantage of TENCEL® when performing sports is the fiber structure itself. Due to it’s particularly smooth surface , it prevents irritations of the skin during sporting activities. Therefore TENCEL® is highly appreciate by persons who have a very sensitive skin.
Also the new concept REFLEX is perfectly expressing the functional properties of TENCEL. TENCEL® REFLEX is a fabric made of TENCEL® fiber with easy ironing and comfort due to natural stretch properties, even without elastane. In a completely unique way TENCEL® is rendered elastic with the help of technical know-how. The stretch effect is attained by a special fabric structure in combination with a special finish. A stretch level of 20 % is obtained. TENCEL® fabrics with this technology offer natural freedom for movement when being active in combination with easy care properties which have not been achieved by cellulose fibers – even cotton – so far.
TENCEL® on the road to success
TENCEL® is already used by numerous sports’ brand manufacturers. The applications are far-ranging. From „High-Activity“ types of sport to Sport-Lifestyle clothing. TENCEL® is well represented. It is a question of the right fabric structure to really show off the optimum fiber properties of TENCEL® to advantage. TENCEL® already features as a sports fiber in the collections of leading sport brands like Adidas, Puma, Nike, Lafuma, Salewa, Taylormade, Ben Hogan, Liz Claiborn Golf and Columbia.
Moisture transportation as a result of nano technology. The regular arrangement of the nanofibrils in TENCEL® means that these act like a system of canalisation absorbing the moisture and transporting it further. This, in turn, creates optimum conditions for the skin. As the diagram shows, polyester, on the other hand, absorbs no moisture whatsoever which has a detrimental effect on wear comfort and on the conditions for the skin.
