Low Pile Turfs
Low Pile Turf Systems continue to be popular in hockey, tennis and other sports. Unlike soccer, the athletes in hockey don’t have direct contact with the surface that often or ,like in American Football, wear a protective clothes (helmet, kneepads, etc ...). Therefore the abrasion isn’t that much of a problem, but ball playing characteristics and a perfectly even turf are of higher importance. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) even declared that artificial turf is the only certified surface for hockey matches.
 The maintenance of golf greens can be very difficult and costly. Irrigation needs a lot of water and fertilizers may influence the environment negatively. This can be avoided by using artificial turf. Special low-pile systems are produced for golf greens. They provide optimal putting characteristics at low maintenance costs and do not need water or questionable amounts of fertilizers. Here a synthetic product is actually more environment-friendly than natural grass.
These artificial turf systems can be with or without siliceous sand infill, depending on the desired sliding and suspension characteristics. Modern turfs of that kind are no longer made of polyamid (nylon), but more often made out of straight or texturized PP or PE yarns, very similar to the high pile turfs.
